For 2024\, there were 36 registered online participants whereby 18 students (funded by DFATs new Colombo Plan) participated on work placements in Fiji and engaged in projects such as geological hazard mapping and assessment\, environmental monitoring of river gravel extraction\, river gravel resource assessment\, and exploring the role of stone in Fiji’s architectural and cultural heritage.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Data collection for the Baseline Study on Development Minerals in the Republic of Congo
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][uncode_custom_fields post_type=”tribe_venue” field_elements=”value”][vc_column_text]Between 5 July and 19 August 2024\, field data collection activities were conducted in the Republic of Congo\, as part of the Baseline Study on Development Minerals.   \nThe lack of data on the Development Minerals and ASM sector is a major challenge in Congo. These field data collection activities consisted of gathering qualitative and quantitative information on the artisanal and small-scale mining sector to inform the programme’s baseline analysis.  \nField data collection with an artisanal and small-scale miner\nThe activities were conducted in six Departments\, including Brazzaville\, Pointe-Noire\, Kouilou\, Bouenza\, Cuvette and Cuvette Ouest and covered Development Minerals such as sandstone\, sand\, gravel\, clay\, granite\, as well as river beds and subsoil gravels.  \nThe data collection focused on:  \n\nMinerals mined and mining sites\nProfiles of ASM miners\, organization and formalization \nMining practices and environment impacts \nMarket dynamics and value-chains \n\nAs a result\, the activity provided field data to inform the baseline study as well as a comprehensive assessment of the Development Minerals sector\, highlighting current dynamics and key factors and challenges for the development of the sector. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Training on Business Development for Small-Scale Mining
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][uncode_custom_fields post_type=”tribe_venue” field_elements=”value”][vc_column_text]In October 2024\, the ACP-EU Development Minerals Programme conducted a training in Brazzaville for artisanal and small-scale miners. The training aimed to strengthen participants’ entrepreneurial and management skills\, introduce business planning as a practical decision-making tool\, and promote more inclusive and sustainable mining practices.  \nParticipants take part in a training on business development and business planning\nThe workshop provided participants with knowledge on key aspects of managing and developing small-scale mining enterprises. Sessions addressed topics such as business planning\, access to finance\, marketing strategies\, the creation and management of business entities and cooperatives\, as well as basic accounting principles necessary for running a mining-related business.  \nThe training was supported by practical case studies and interactive discussions that encouraged peer learning and the exchange of experiences among participants. These exchanges helped identify practical solutions and led to recommendations for improving the management and performance of small-scale mining enterprises.  \nAs a result\, participants gained practical knowledge and skills to better organize\, formalize\, and sustain their mining activities. This contributes to improving the productivity and income-generating potential of artisanal and small-scale mining businesses.  \n [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
