The Blueprint for a National Formalization and Business Acceleration Strategy was developed to guide the successful implementation of the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector. It uses a phased approach, beginning with a National Formalization Strategy. This strategy, built around nine strategic objectives, aims to overcome long-standing challenges and facilitate the formalization of ASMs, transforming them into sustainable ASMEs. Following formalization, a Business Acceleration package is implemented, featuring twelve strategic objectives designed to ensure the successful development and long-term sustainability of these ASMEs. Legalization is specifically addressed within this business acceleration phase.

This Environmental Assessment Guidelines and Implementation Toolkit was created as a user-friendly technical resource. This toolkit is designed for artisanal and small-scale miners (ASM), field personnel, government officials, consultants, and anyone supporting environment-related ASM projects. Its purpose is to encourage effective environmental assessment, monitoring, and evaluation in the ASM sector, ensuring proper environmental management before, during, and after mining, even with limited technical knowledge. The toolkit is structured into five distinct sections: Environmental Baseline Assessment, Environmental Risk Assessment, Environmental Management Guidelines, Environmental Inspection Checklists, and Filing and Documentation Requirements. Each section provides practical checklists and guidelines to address various environmental management concerns.
