Environmental issues in artisanal mining

Managing the environmental impact of artisanal mining requires the active participation of mining communities. The Programme supported this through training on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) best practices and contributed to the Green Mining Initiative by conducting scoping studies on the environmental and social impacts of mining in four regions of Cameroon. A case study from the degraded mining sites in Kambele, East region, highlights the collaborative work between the Programme, the government, and local communities.
